    Lost an earring
I lost an earring last night -- it's got a red stone, with nice metal loops going around the edges and a little ball dangling underneath. My mom gave it to me. If you find it can you please put it in lost and found, or email me at charlieanders2@gmail? Thank you!!!

    Call for Volunteers

WisCon is organized and run by volunteers and there are still many ways to help out this year. We hope you will give a little bit of your time to help keep WisCon the great event it is!

Volunteers receive a special WisCon thank you gift. This year's gift is our blue insulated, reusable lunch bag with WisCon 36 logo!

    Art Show

You can help with set-up, tear down or do a shift at the table assisting with sales while the Art Show is open. Stop by to volunteer or sign up for a shift. We will also have a schedule with open shifts at the volunteer table as of Friday afternoon.

    Childcare

Childcare could use help from 8 am - 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday and on Monday from 5:30 - 6:15 pm. They are closed between 11:45 am and 12:30 pm for lunch. The busiest times are from 10 am on especially after lunch starting around 1 p.m. You are welcome drop by to help when you have 20 minutes or more of time, but please don't be disappointed if you are asked to return at a time when more help is needed. Volunteers read to kids, play games and generally have a fun break from the convention.

    Registration

Helping check people in and register new arrivals is one of the best ways to meet new people and put faces with names. Let me know if you are interested in taking a shift or stop by at the beginning of the convention to see when they need help. Volunteers are needed for shifts during these hours: Thurs 6:30-11 pm,, Fri 9 am-11 pm, Sat 9 am-9 pm, Sun 9 am-5 pm and Mon 9 am-2 pm.

    The Gathering

On Friday we'll need help from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm for set-up, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm for staffing/table relief, and from 4:00 - 5:30pm for tear-down. Volunteering for the Gathering is a great place to meet new people!

    Access

Access staff can often use help with set up and with maintaining the blue-taped access spots in programming rooms.

    ConSuite

Volunteers are needed every minute the ConSuite is open all weekend long beginning around 10:30 a.m. until close. The greatest need is just before, during and after breaktimes – about ten minutes before and after. A schedule will be posted in the ConSuite and you can sign up there. Volunteers are also needed for chopping vegetables on Friday, usually between 1 - 3 p.m. Everyone eventually comes to the ConSuite so this is also a great way to meet people. Sign up is in the ConSuite all weekend long.

    Green Room

We can always use a few more dependable volunteers to take shifts helping in the Green Room which is open during all the hours programming runs. Volunteers count attendance at programs, assist programming participants with name tents and other duties. The Green Room is great way to meet some of the interesting people who are participating in panels, readings and other programming in a relaxed environment.

    Tiptree Auction

Friday before and during the Gathering, the Auction needs volunteers to help with set-up, sales and to process donations.

We'll also need 4 or so volunteers to assist moving stuff over from the art room to the ballroom about 1 hour before the Auction starts. During Auction we’ll need 3-4 runners, and then help packing stuff up and moving it afterwards.

Tiptree Bake Sale (room across from the ConSuite)

The Bake Sale benefits the Tiptree Award and is one of the most popular events are Wiscon. We need 2 people for setup from 9-11 am Saturday morning and 2 people for each time slot: 11-1 pm, 1-3 pm, and 3-5 pm, with one managing the sales and handling the cash and the other will help with plating/handing out baked goods. The cash position has a chair and can be done entirely seated but requires basic math skills. The food handling requires the ability to be on your feet for most of the time, able to move around in a somewhat tight space, reaching, and wearing food-service gloves and apron.

    SignOut

Many of the authors who attend WisCon come to Sign Out so this a great way to meet them. On Monday, we need a couple volunteers to help with set up from 10:45 am and then 3-4 volunteers to serve beverages and food during the event from 11:30 am - 1 pm.

    A/V

We need help with A/V for Opening Ceremonies, the Guest of Honor speeches and during Tiptree Auction because of the multimedia involved. The ideal volunteer would have some A/V experience and/or be able to help move equipment.

    Parties

We would love to have someone go around during the parties and check in with organizers to make sure everything is going well. This is perfect for someone who is already planning on hitting the parties or someone who is looking for an excuse to.

    Safety

If you like parties this also may be the position for you. For more details, please contact us.

To sign up or for any questions, please contact us at volunteers36 (at) wiscon (dot) info. You can also check in with the various areas during the convention to see if they need help. All of this information will be posted on the volunteer board (near Registration) as well as many of the open shifts and emergency or last-minute needs. Please stop by!

Not going to be there. Wah!
The lack of roommate, a sudden large and unexpected car expense, and an impending move to a place I haven't yet managed to find have all combined to make it unwise for me to attend this year.  (When the universe/deity taps you on the shoulder and says, "Stay Home!" I guess I have to listen.)
PLEASE have a great con - I'll be thinking of all of you and checking in online from time to time !!!

WisCon schedule app in the iTunes store

If you're coming to WisCon this week and you have an iOS device consider checking out this app, which provides an electronic form of this year's pocket program book.

The app is free, and should help keep you up-to-date on any last-minute changes to programming items.

    Packing for Wiscon?
Leave a little extra room in your luggage to bring your fabulous used clothes to the Gathering's clothing swap! You can use the same space to carry lovely new things home. :)

To contribute to the clothing swap, just bring your gently used, wonderful, and interesting items of clothing to the ballrooms on Friday before or during the Gathering. Everyone is welcome to browse and take all the clothing they want, regardless of whether they've contributed.

Let me know if you have questions or want to volunteer. Thanks to the current volunteers, we have enough people to make this event run, but it's lots of fun to match people with clothes -- and of course if you're the first person to see the items you get the first chance to try them on!

    Sticker Distribution
For memory refreshment and/or if you've never participated before:

Stickers will be distributed by holyoutlaw and juliebata. We'll both have a complete set.

One or the other of us will be at the Gathering on Friday, feel free to approach us if you see us there. (I'm likely to be wearing a long-sleeved tie dye shirt of some kind.)

But the best place, of course, is the LJ party in room 607, Friday night. Cake, mimosas, and stickers!

Will you be on the message board?
Last year, inclusion of one's name on the message board was changed to "Opt-In." Many people were not aware of the change, and there was much consternation.

Take a moment now to go edit your preferences and make sure they reflect your wishes.

    alas, alack, and well-a-day.
I have a governor's club room that I got from a nice lj person. and I can't use it. either someone else wants it, and I can transfer it to you, or I have to pay a penalty of loads of money, or I try to get there with my child and not really get to do much. Really wishing I had changed the reservation last week, but I think I was holding out hope my partner would be able to join us...

anyone want a really sweet room for Thursday through Monday morning?

    Wiscon 36!
Hi all! I'm the new WisCon Social Media Maven on the ConCom. My purpose is to disseminate news and information about WisCon on LJ/DW, Twitter, and Facebook. I wanted to pass on a couple of updates as we approach WisCon 36:

    1) We are very excited to be having ASL interpretation for select events at WisCon 36! If you have questions about this service or would like to make requests, feel free to e-mail the Access Team at access36 (at) wiscon (dot) info.

    2) Safety is looking for some volunteers. If you like parties, this might be the job for you! Please contact volunteers36 (at) wiscon (dot) info for details.

    3) The official hashtag for WisCon 26 is #wiscon. We'll also be providing official hashtags for each panel, which we encourage you to use. The more content you all can generate online, the easier it is for our at-con newsletter maven to put together fun content. I also recommend using Storify to collect the tweets, blog posts, and other online media for particular panels. I'll put out a call for those after the con, and provide a collection of links.

    4) As a reminder, this community is fan-run, and isn't officially affiliated with the ConCom, though there are many of us on the ConCom who follow these posts. This community can be a great resource, but if you're especially concerned about sharing questions or feedback with the ConCom, you should contact the relevant department directly (of course, feel free to start discussions here as well!).

    5) There are still registrations available for Wiscon36!

    6) We have two very exciting guests of honor chosen for WisCon 37! They are...not going to be revealed until next Sunday, so stay tuned!

    Genderfloomp update
    Hey, folks!

[info]megmccarron and I have been working on planning for Genderfloomp 2: The Refloompening for the past few months, and we wanted to give you a quick update about what's going on.

Thing 1: Yes! It's happening again! Official WisCon program page at http://wiscon.piglet.org/program/detail?idItems=1380 .

    2. Which scoops our most exciting announcement, which is that we will have GUEST DJs! WisCon GoH Andrea Hairston will be spinning in the early part of the evening, and Charlie Jane Anders at some point after that. Annalee Newitz will be gracing us with her most excellent VJ mojo all night, and we may have some other surprises in store. And of course our own DJ Buckminster Fuller will be behind the decks whenever anyone else isn't.

3: We’ve made a little webpage to centralize information by and about Genderfloomp at https://sites.google.com/site/genderfloompwiscon/ . Nothing fancy, but it includes a link to an online version of our reading list, plus a youtube video playlist and a Spotify song playlist.

    4. …and, of course, we welcome your suggestions for those lists! If you've read any books that rocked your world, tell us. If you've seen deliciously queer videos (especially those that convey queer or trans* themes without needing words to do so), then we want to know about them for our youtube list. As for the song lists, keeping people dancing is our highest priority, so please send us your suggestions for great dance songs, especially those that aren’t misogynistic or heteronormative.

    5. Pursuant to some discussions after last year’s Floomp about what would make people feel safer and more comfortable in the space, we will be prominently be posting these door signs (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1axi9Qo78MXhZD-qLU5e-BQ3vvAApusAO54rC5NqA_iQ/edit) on or near the door to the space. If you have any suggestions about the wording, please let us know ASAP, as I hope to print them out before I leave for Madison next Thursday. Additionally, in order to address some of the comments from last year about not being able to see people’s outfits, we’re planning to create a photo corner/area that’s lighter than the rest of the room, so you can go there to take pictures with your friends, or put in some time on the catwalk for general appreciation.

    6. In addition to re-upping most of our fabulous sponsors from last year (Circlet Press, io9, Small Beer Press, and Strange Horizons), we’re also working with Gender Reel (http://genderreelfest.com/), a Philadelphia-based film festival, to provide some short films for a film-program and discussion hour that we hope will take place…at some point during WisCon. (We’ll update here when we know where and when.) In addition, we want to make sure everyone here knows that GenderReel is *now taking submissions* for its 2012 festival. If you’re a filmmaker at heart—or know one—please make sure they see GenderReel’s Submission page at http://genderreelfest.com/?page_id=32 well before the June 15 deadline.

Those are our updates for now, but please let us know about any Floomp related thoughts you’ve been having. Or you can always send us an email at (genderfloompwiscon at gmail dot com) if you want prefer a private forum.

    Thanks!
    Liz (and Meghan)
